Sigurblot - Victory Sacrifice

Today, aligning with the full moon, we are excited to celebrate Sigurblot. What is Sigurblot? Well written within the Ynglinga Saga Chapter 8, written by Snorri in 1230, it is said:

"Þá skyldi blóta í móti vetri til árs, en at miðjum vetri blóta til gróðrar, hit þriðja at sumri, þat var sigrblót"

"There should be sacrifice towards winter for a good year, and in the middle of winter sacrifice for a good crop, a third in summer, that was victory sacrifice."

The direct meaning behind Sigurblot being only for victory in battle has been widely reviewed and published in a few different books over the years. It could mean from a trading voyage set out, to the celebration of summer coming and life having won over death.

Though the middle year blot is typically for a good harvest, for many of us today, this time of year during sigurblot is when we begin to see life coming back. It is time to till the fields, prep the beds and get ready to enjoy spring/summer.

Everyone has their own way to celebrate, I personally make offerings to Freyr, and to the earth, that we may be victorious in our gardening endeavors, that our crops may flourish, that life continues to triumph over death.

So on this day! April 16th of 2022! I want to wish all of you an amazing day, may the gods and spirits bless you, and favor your plants! May you celebrate a victory in all things you take on this season, and may you flourish.
